Let's take a look at this example of an employee's leave balance, namely their childcare leave and annual leave balances:

Childcare Leave: 5/8 (6+2)

  • Entitlement for entire year = 8

  • No. of leaves left as of today = 5

  • No. of days applied for (regardless of pending or approved status) = 8 - 5 = 3

  • Breakdown of leaves: (6+2)

    Base entitlement for the year = 6

    Leave adjustment made = +2

    ***due to carry forward leave / manual adjustment by manager, negative adjustments mean a deduction (e.g. -2)

Annual Leave: 3.5/5

  • Entitlement for entire year = 5

  • No. of leaves left as of today = 3.5

  • No. of days applied for (regardless of pending or approved status) = 5 - 3.5 = 1.5
